We will welcome Larry Norman (French, University of Chicago) for a roundtable on Chapters 1 and 9 of his new book The Shock of the Ancients: Literature and History in Early Modern France (University of Chicago Press, 2011). Larry Norman (Ph.D. Columbia University, 1996) is Professor of French Literature and Theater and Performance Studies at the University of Chicago. His interests include theater history, book history, intellectual and cultural history, literary criticism and theory, and the relation between the visual arts and literature. He has published The Shock of the Ancients: Literature and History in Early Modern France (University of Chicago Press, 2011) and The Public Mirror: Moli猫re and the Social Commerce of Depiction (University of Chicago Press, 1999). He is also the editor of 听(Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago Press, 2000);听The Book in the Age of Theater: 1550-1750听(University of Chicago Library, 2001); co-editor (with Philippe Desan and Richard Strier),听听(Paris: Schena/Presses de l'Universit茅 de Paris-Sorbonne, 2002); and co-editor (with Glenn Most and Sophie Rabau), 听(Edizioni della Normale, Pisa, 2009).
