The Renaissances Graduate Research Series: "History and Formalism"
Speakers): Jessica Beckman and Molly Murray
For the second event of our Renaissances Graduate Research Series,听a series of conversations between advanced Ph.D. students at 黑料百科 and interlocutors of their work, Jessica Beckman,听Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English at 黑料百科, and听Molly Murray,听Associate Professor of English and听Comparative Literature, at Columbia University, will discuss Beckman鈥檚 dissertation project:听"The Mind's Eye: Vision, Text, and Thought in Early Modern English Print."
听
Beckman studies literary听formalism, print technology,听and the听history of reading in early modern听England.听In her discussion with Professor听Murray, she wishes to reflect on how the study of literary form听can be reconsidered听through an expanded archive that embraces the contingent circumstances and multiple agents involved in 16th and 17th听century literary production.听
听
The event will take place on Thursday, April 4, in 260-216, from 6 to 8pm.听

Jessica Beckman and Molly Murray will briefly present their works in progress: selections from听Beckman鈥檚 dissertation chapter entitled "Reading in Space", and Professor Murray鈥檚 book introduction 鈥淲riting the Prison in Early Modern England."听These presentations will听set up points of intersection between the two projects听and we will then open the floor to discussion and questions.
