"Marguerite Yourcenar was the first woman to be part of the French Academy. She鈥檚 a legend of the literature of the XX century, and the personification of another time enlightenment. She owned classic culture and analyzed the world through old myths. To make a documentary about her is an exceptional challenge and a delicate task. The Chilean director Maril煤 Mallet (living in Montreal, like many other noted Chilean filmmakers), managed to create an elegant and deep film, with the most important details and key quotes of this great writer. This docu-fiction casted such well chosen actors that they are confused with the real files. It鈥檚 a travel log through time (the writer traveled through Canada in 1957), an illustrated journal with interviews, quotes, and amazing landscapes. The musical quality contributes to note Mallet鈥檚 impressionist treatment: an image that holds a rare beauty. The director stages the vitality, knowledge, and the will of a writer that lived outside her time in a way that鈥檚 bleak and wise." -- Patricio Guzm谩n
